Sample Raw Diet

First and foremost – VARIETY equals health, don’t get stuck in a same-food, different-day rut!!

Second, continue to read, research, and learn  – your dog’s optimum health depends on it!!

Third, this ‘Sample Diet’ is a sample of a raw feeding program for the ‘long-run’.  If you are switching your dog
from another type of diet, please start with a plan such as the ‘Getting Started On Raw’ plan that follows.

The over-all raw food ratio should look like this over a month's time...

60%     Raw Meaty Bones (Whole or ground meat/bone mince – RMB’s are cuts of meat w/bone that your
dog can eat in their entirety, such as chicken wings, ground meat/bone mince, etc.  Large beef bones
and the like are recreational only!)
15%     Raw Vegetables (At least half of your total vegetable variety should be green leafy vegetables.

All raw vegetables must be ground to a pulp; dogs can not break down the cellulose wall.)

5%     Raw Fruits
10%     Raw Offal (liver, kidney, tripe)
10%     Other Healthy Foods

Plus raw, cold-pressed oils (essential fatty acids), a quality vitamin/mineral mix (unfortunately, our depleted
soils make this addition important!), a healthy enzyme, and a healthy bacteria supplement such as kefir or yogurt.

The following ‘recipe’ will make approximately 50 lbs. of food…

20 lbs.              Organic Chicken Wings (ground and mixed with other food or fed whole)
10 lbs.              Other RMB’s (Such as ground duck, calf, beaver, or Billinghurst's pre-made meat/bone minces,

lamb & beef – available here at Golden Acres)

5 lbs.              Organic Ground Beef, Eggs, Pork, Turkey, Buffalo, Venison, Fish, Cottage Cheese, etc.

5 lbs.              Organic Liver/Kidney/Tripe (Billinghurst also has a good Beef Offal mix - also available here)
10
lbs.              Organic Vegetables (MUST be finely ground/juiced to a pulp in order for your dog to utilize them;
they can not break down even small chunks of vegetables!)

1 cup             Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

1 cup             Organic Aloe Vera Juice

To the mix, you could add  1 tsp. Oil, ¼ tsp. of organic kelp/alfalfa mix, an enzyme, 1 tsp. of organic kefir or yogurt, 1 tsp. VIBE™ (an ionic vitamin/mineral supplement), and a couple of drops of Lemon & Longevity essential oils per day, for small dogs and medium to large breed puppies (divide among meals), and approximately 1 TBLS. oil and 1 tsp. kelp/alfalfa mix, an enzyme, 1 TBLS. of organic kefir or yogurt, 1 TBLS VIBE™, and 4 to 5 drops of Lemon & Longevity essential oils per day for medium to large breed adult dogs.

The best oil choices are cod liver, fish body, and salmon.  I recommend using a bottle of one, then switching to another, and so on through each choice and then back to the first again - variety is good!  Oil MUST be cold PRESSED (rather than cold or heat processed) to be healthy.  AVOID ALL PROCESSED VEGETABLE OILS.

We have organic kelp, organic alfalfa, VIBE™, organic kefir, organic raw yogurt, enzymes, oils and other supplements available at Golden Acres Total Dog.

All-natural, free range meats, organ meats, organic eggs, juiced veggies, organic beef bones, and other ground meat & bone minces are also available at Golden Acres.  Click here for details.

Good choices for healthy treats include fruits and vegetables, chopped cooked meat (easier to handle as treats than raw meat!), chopped cooked liver/heart, etc.  Avoid 'junk food' treats like milk bones, snausages, etc. - read the labels (yuck!!).

An adult female large breed dog (60#) will eat approximately 8 to 10 lbs. of food per week, a male (70-75#) will eat approximately 11 to 13 lbs. per week.  Puppies will eat up to 6% of their body weight per day for the first 9 months or so, before gradually reducing consumption to their adult rations.  However, remember that these are approximations!  Each dog is different and the best way to determine how much to feed in the long run is to start with an approximate amount and then watch your dog!  If he/she is gaining weight, cut back.  If he/she is losing weight, increase.  After a couple of months, you’ll know what is right for your dog!

I recommend feeding –

3 times per day until about 6 months of age
2 times per day between 6 months and 10 to 12 months
1 time per day, with a one day per week fast, after one year of age.
